2026 Memorial of Jesus Christ’s Death

Friendly greeting in front of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses
The Memorial 2026 of Jesus Christ’s death in 2026 took place worldwide on April 2, 2026. On the evening of April 2 (Thursday), the 14th of Nisan (biblical calendar) began. The evening on which Jesus Christ originally introduced the Lord’s Evening Meal and then commanded that it be carried out repeatedly in remembrance of him.

An estimated more than 20 million people gathered around the earth to observe the Memorial of Jesus’ death. For approximately 24 hours, starting in the far east of the globe and ending in the far west.

Preparation for the 2026 Memorial of Jesus’ Death

In the lead-up to the event, Jehovah’s Witnesses invited many millions of people to this Memorial over several weeks. On the weekends leading up to it, a suitable biblical article from the Watchtower magazine was discussed during the meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Additionally, a special biblical talk was held worldwide, usually on the weekend before the Memorial, in the more than 119,000 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide. The theme was “Who Will Restore the Earth?“.

  • Special Talk Theme: “Who Will Restore the Earth?”
  • Preparation: Discussion of a suitable article from the magazine The Watchtower on the preceding weekends.

On the weekend of March 21 to 22, 2026, the theme of the Bible study based on the Watchtower was “Why We Need the Ransom“. On the weekend of March 28 to 29, the theme was “How will you Respond to the Ransom?“.

Did you know? The Memorial always takes place exactly on the 14th of Nisan (biblical calendar) – the day on which Jesus introduced the Lord’s Evening Meal.

The Benefit of Having Personally Attended the Memorial

Anyone who personally attended the Memorial of Jesus Christ’s death could use the time to reflect with appreciation on what Jesus Christ and Jehovah God have done for us. Because Jesus gave his life voluntarily for us, we have the opportunity to live forever under beautiful conditions in the near future, just as Jehovah God originally intended for mankind.

In the Bible book of John, chapter three, verse 16, we learn that “God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life”.

By attending the Memorial, we could also show our appreciation toward Jesus. After all, he gave his life for us—including for you. Imagine being buried under a house during an earthquake, and someone pulls you out, even though it is very dangerous, and he loses his life in the process. Would you be grateful to him? How much more should we be grateful to Jesus Christ, who gave his life for us so that we can live forever.

And also to his heavenly Father, Jehovah God, who could have intervened at any time to prevent the death of his Son. Furthermore, those who attended the 2026 Memorial of Jesus’ death also followed the command of Jesus Christ to observe the Memorial (Bible book of Luke 22:19).

Memorial Morning Worship Program on the Day of the Memorial

Every year, Jehovah’s Witnesses publish a Memorial Morning Worship program that can be watched on the morning of the Memorial. For example it showed, that we can rejoice when we commemorate the death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are among those who have not forgotten the two greatest proofs of love that ever existed.

It was also explained that these two special gifts are discussed during the Memorial. The video for the 2026 Memorial morning program also covered the Bible text from Luke 12 verse 32 and provided answers to five questions. Additionally, there was a selection of Bible texts suitable for the day that one could listen to.

The Bible passage from Luke chapter twelve, verse 32, refers to the little flock. It says: “Have no fear, little flock, for your Father has approved of giving you the Kingdom.”

The first question answered was: “1. Who is the little flock?”
It was explained that Jesus himself provided the answer. According to Luke 12:32, Jesus was obviously referring to the individuals who will rule with him in the heavenly Kingdom. But why did Jesus call them a “little flock”?

It was further explained that we can also learn about the little flock in the Bible book of Revelation, chapter 5. Verse 9 shows that through his sacrifice, Jesus bought people from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. Verse 10 states that Jesus “made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth”.
